DaVid Video

DaVid Extras

DaVid is a video and data logging system for race cars. DaVid is a versatile system that merges video signals with vehicle performance data and outputs a synchronized video signal that can be recorded or broadcast. Not only can DaVid be used for racing data acquisition, it can record and mix video with the recorded data.

Serious racers, both amateur and professional, can use DaVid to document their track performance and create video for sponsorship packages. For racing schools and consultants, DaVid is an invaluable tool for training and review. Racetracks and event promoters will enjoy using DaVid to create compelling souvenirs for race events and corporate promotions, as well as provide exciting in-car views for broadcast.

Use DaVid to create sponsorship DVDs, race school training videos, corporate event souvenirs, even set up a low cost broadcast event. Unlike other video products, DaVid integrates the video with the data stream, so they are always in perfect sync.

Here is some sample videos generated with a DaVid System:

June 4th, 2006 - Portland, OR - SCCA National Race - Last Lap Win
May 14th, 2006 - Portland, OR - SCCA National Race - Last Lap Battle
March 17th, 2006 - Thunderhill, CA - SCCA National Race - One Lap of Practice
March 16th, 2006 - Thunderhill, CA - SCCA National Race - Close Call!

In contrast to many existing performance video products, DaVid does not merely “overlay” the video signals; it actually merges them in real time with the performance data to create a single video signal output that is precisely synchronized. Further, the video layout features customizable gauge styles, colors and logos. You choose which channels of data you want displayed.

DaVid has two main components – video and data. For video, DaVid connects to two separate video sources, such as in-car and external cameras and merges the video signals in real time with vehicle performance data. DaVid is compatible with both NTSC (US) and PAL (Europe) video standards, with output in CVBS format and control possible through the LANC protocol.

The racing data acquisition component integrates technology similar to AiM’s well known MyChron, MXL, and EVO models of high performance race data acquisition loggers. DaVid utilizes AiM's ECT (Easy Connect Technology) to connect directly to many third party ECU’s (via CAN or RS-232), allowing DaVid to record the wealth of data managed by the ECU. DaVid features 5 analog inputs, RPM & speed inputs, lateral and longitudinal G-sensors, wheel speed sensor and 8 MB of non-volatile memory. As with all of AiM’s data loggers, DaVid connects via USB to a PC for easy data download and analysis with AiM’s Race Studio 2 data analysis software.

DaVid is available in several configurations:

Standalone configuration that has both video and full data logger capabilities Slave configuration of just the video component that can be integrated with an existing AiM data logger installation via a CAN connection Both configurations include an infrared lap timing kit. Optional equipment includes: cameras, video recorder, MyChron 3 or MXL display, oil and water temperature sensors, oil and fuel pressure sensors, wheel speed, brake and throttle position sensors and many, many more sensors.
